Students and staff of IIMC taking the Swachhata Pledge |
Swachhata
Hi Seva, taking the ideology behind the Swachhata Pakhwada mission in mind IIMC students embarked on a cleanliness drives this January. The mission behind the
drive was to clean the University of Sant Gadge Baba Amravati and make an
analysis of the garbage collected.
The
drive started on 16th January 2019 with the students and staff
taking the Swachhata Pledge. By collecting and categorizing the garbage the
students found everyday they made a conclusive result of just how much waste
there is and what consists of majority in this waste. The findings helped
students understand the consumption habits of the people in the university.
What was consumed the most, the least and what was consumed at regular time
periods.
With
this finding a report of the matter was shared which said that tobacco,
particularly chewing tobacco and cigarettes, was the majority waste found in
the university campus amounting to 75% of the pile, next was alcohol bottles
consisting of 13% and lastly plastic and wrapper waste of just 12%. In a
university where tobacco and alcohol consumption is not just frowned upon but
strictly banned such finding might make one question the very rules and
regulations of which the university was constructed.
Apart
from this the students also cleaned various areas of the university such as the
Dr. Shrikant Jicjkar memorial building, Valuer hostel and main streets in the university.
