Regional Campuses better than Delhi: K. G. Suresh

From Left to Right IIMC Amravati Director Vijay Satokar, IIMC Director General K. G. Suresh

“I believe that regional campuses have three major advantages over IIMC Delhi which make the regional campuses a lot better than the Delhi Campus.” said IIMC Director General K. G. Suresh while addressing the students of IIMC Amravati, on Monday.

Mr. Suresh pointed out that students living in a city away from the comfort of their home and away from their social circle are able to learn at a much higher grade and also learn how to handle themselves in different situations. He further added that since the student-teacher ratio is less(Approx. 15:1), as compared to Delhi where for every 60+ students there is 1 teacher, each teacher is able to give more attention to each student and is able to guide them personally on their shortcomings . Lastly he said, as the students live in close quarters in the hostel the bonding among them is stronger too.

Further into the event, he distributed Diplomas to the previous year batch of Marathi Journalism, promising that from this year onwards all students, be it from English or regional courses, shall attend the convocation and receive their diplomas in Delhi. He further stated that out of the 5 regional campuses only Amravati and Jammu are left to have a campus of their own and that they should have their own campus within a few years.

The event ended with the students performing various cultural activities for the director such as traditional dances, solo and duet songs and poems. Highlight of the programme was when the DG, the staff of IIMC and the students all joined together for a dance on the song Zingat.

Gullarghat, a location once said to house more than 150 families, has now become a land ruled by tigers of Melghat . Gopi Nanda, the only tribal still staying in the location, said, “We were shown many locations to rehabilitate at. After a lot of deliberations our elders of the village decided to move from this location.” He said that out of the 150n families in the village about 30 were not interested in moving but due to the majority wanting to move out they were left with no other option. Another issue, pointed out by Nanda, was that the amount that was settled by the government for the rehabilitated villagers was never given completely to them. He said that due to the huge amount of Rs. 10lakh which many villagers thought would be enough to help them sustain the villagers accepted the program and moved out of Gullarghat. Problems started to arise once the money was exhausted and they were left to fend for themselves. Nanda stated that there were a couple of reasons behind ...
